Product Description
Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and other great teachers were born with brains built essentially like anyone else s. Then they used their minds to change their brains in ways that changed history.

With the new breakthroughs in neuroscience, combined with the insights from thousands of years of contemplative practice, you, too, can shape your own brain for greater happiness, love, and wisdom.

Buddha's Brain joins the forces of modern science with ancient teachings to show readers how to have greater emotional balance in turbulent times, as well as healthier relationships, more effective actions, and a deeper religious or spiritual practice.

Well-referenced and grounded in science, the book is full of practical tools and skills readers can use in daily life to tap the unused potential of the brain and rewire it over time for greater peace and well-being.

If you can change your brain, you can change your life.

"Numerous writings in recent years have exacerbated the traditional rift between science and religion; however, there has been a refreshing parallel movement in the opposite direction. Neuroscientists have become increasingly interested in using first person introspective inquiries if the mind to complement their third person western scientific investigations of the brain. Buddhist contemplative practices are particularly amenable to such collaboration, inviting efforts to find neurobiological explanations for Buddhist philosophy. Stripped of religious baggage, Buddha s Brain clearly describes how modern concepts of evolutionary and cognitive neurobiology support core Buddhist teachings and practice. This book should have great appeal for those seeking a secular spiritual path, while also raising many testable hypotheses for interested neuroscientists."

WITH BUDDHA'S BRAIN . . .

Your neural networks you'll retrain;
In time you'll learn not to complain;
You'll modulate distress and pain;
Strife and anger you'll disdain;
From old addictions you'll abstain
And slowly grow kind and humane,
Finding in time how to be sane,
And last--enlightenment attain.

Buddha's Brain offers practical advice for cultivating happiness, love, compassion, and wisdom. The book combines Psychology and Neuroscience with Buddhist philosophy, a true triumph of "East meets West." I highly recommend this book to people who want to raise their consciousness about personal relationships and spiritual growth.

I was excited to read this excellent work. It helps me in my work with clients and especially in normalising trends of the mind. I found the explanation for making the effort to practice gratitude and compassion.

5 out of 5 stars This Is One Of The Best   July 19, 2010

I am an avid reader of anything Self-Help, Psychology or Spirituality and this is one of the best. The main writer explains the inner workings of the mind in such great detail that makes it understandable to the reader. Deeply profound. When you know the way that your mind works, it helps you to know in which ways to work with it to help yourself focus, become more positive or contemplative, etc.

There is something for everyone to learn. It's highly recommended for a reason. I honestly believe it should be a duty for everyone to read it.

5 out of 5 stars Buddha's Brain: a miraculous intersection of the practical and profound   July 14, 2010

I value Buddha's Brain as one of those miraculous intersections of the most practical and profound. Neuropsychologist, Rick Hanson, so clearly unveils the latest research in neural plasticity and positive psychology, and shows how to use and shape the brain for a happier, healthier life. He takes complex ideas and makes them down-to-earth and useful for daily life. I recommend this book to everyone.
