A Very Pleasant ContactNovember 4, 2008 Mr. Richard D. Coreno(Berea, Ohio USA) Jerry Goldsmith delivers a fantastic score, with music that stands alone as a wonderment of soundscapes.
The juxtaposition of the numbers make for a solid delivery, as each build upon the colors already on the canvas. Main Title/Locutus aptly sets the tone, with The Dish, First Contact and End Credits the best of Goldsmith's entries. A neat bonus is Steppenwolf's Magic Carpet Ride and Roy Orbison's Oooby Dooby.
This rates very highly in the Goldsmith catalog of soundtracks and arguably the finest of his work in the Star Trek franchise.
Opening Heart AcheSeptember 22, 2008 Simon B. Mcsweyn(NSW Australia) The opening credits music on the album is the best score written for any star trek film ever. It is heart crushing. I don't remember the rest of the soundtrack but The first track is worth the money!
Really good tunes for a great movieSeptember 21, 2008 Roger J. Buffington(Huntington Beach, CA United States) "First Contact" is far and away the best Star Trek movie, and here, the great Jerry Goldsmith produces a score that does the film justice. I loved the use of "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf when the Phoenix begins its historic voyage. This is a wonderful musical score and if you enjoyed the movie you will want this for your iPod or MP3 player.
May not load to iTunes/iPodSeptember 29, 2007 JanG(Iowa) I like this CD a great deal. It is one of my favorite soundtracks. However, when I tried to load my copy to iTunes, the format wasn't compatible. Something weird about the "enhanced" CD thing. So, I'd suggest that if you want a CD to load to an iPod, you buy the mp3 download version.
Star Trek music at its bestSeptember 8, 2007 Nathan A. Dollison(West Virginia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Being a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars (contrary to popular theory, there are many of us that like both) Jerry Goldsmith's scores for Trek are second only to John Williams's scores for Star Wars. First Contact is my favorite Trek film due in no small part to the great music. The majestic theme is fantastic and the action sequences and the Borg music are simply awesome. Highly recommend for any Trek or Goldsmith fan.
